CRITICAL THINKING

THE MISSION

To use my two decades of experience in the university sector to help students, academics, and universities cement critical thinking into learning, courses, and programmes, for the benefit of all – students, universities, and society.

THE TEXTBOOK

Becoming a Critical Thinker: for your university studies and beyond, was published in 2021 by Oxford University Press, and has been adopted at universities across the world. It draws on my years of experience in a UK university context, including elements of my course, Global Challenges for Business, which won a prestigious Aspen Institute ‘Ideas Worth Teaching’ Award: one of only two awarded outside North America that year.

THE ONLINE COURSE

In July 2026 I will be launching Critical Thinking at University in the World of AI. I have crafted this online course for the unique challenges and opportunities that face today’s university students. It comprises three modules:

  • University in the World of AI

  • Critical Thinking as a Universal Skill

  • Whether, When, and How to Incorporate AI into Learning

Academics, parents, schools, and universities can recommend the course to their university students, ensuring they make the most of their studies and graduate as engaged, independent, confident thinkers.

OUR WORLD

We face an uncertain, unstable, and constantly changing global context mired by political division, increasing wealth disparity, community disillusionment, environmental crises, and AI altering economies and society. The role of university as an educational institution is to prepare students for that environment, providing them with the knowledge, skills and personal characteristics to navigate their individual journey, as well as collectively build a just and stable society for future generations.

OUR UNIVERSITIES

Universities themselves are facing serious challenges to their societal standing and reputation, financing, and pedagogical (teaching) models. Academics are under enormous pressure to do more with less – less time, less resources, less support, and less confidence in their own futures. At the same time, they are facing students looking for guidance, support, and insight into how they could and should navigate the changing world.

My range of resources and support will complement and augment university offerings, helping students improve their learnings, academics improve their students’ experiences, and university meet their graduate skills promises.
