About Sarah…
With two decades of experience in the university sector, I am passionate about ensuring critical thinking remains at the heart of students’ university education.
We face an uncertain, unstable, and constantly changing global environment. The role of university as an educational institution is to prepare students for that environment, providing them with the knowledge, skills and personal characteristics to navigate their individual journey, as well as collectively build a just and stable society for future generations.
Becoming a critical thinker should be a fundamental aim of all university students and central to all university degrees. However, this is not always the case. My mission is to help students, academics, and universities cement critical thinking into their learning and programmes.
Becoming a Critical Thinker
My book Becoming a Critical Thinker: for your university studies and beyond (2021), published by Oxford University Press, has been aopted at universities across the world. It draws on my years of experience teaching and researching in a UK university context, including elements of my award-winning course which can read about here.
“You will never do anything in the world without courage”
“A good education is the greatest gift you can give yourself or anyone else”
Teaching
Teaching and education are my passions. I aim to inspire all students, be they first year undergraduates or experienced professionals in executive education programmes. I am passionate about helping people uncover their own voice, by increasing their foundational knowledge, learning universal skills, and developing personal characteristics to become more informed, effective, and successful students, graduates, global citizens, and human beings.
Research
During my academic research career, I focused on the intersection of sustainability and business, alternative forms of organising such as social enterprise, and the role of business in society. I was also interested in the effective integration of critical thinking into learning and teaching pedagogy in a university context.
“Sarah is simply awesome. As a lecturer she is inspirational, as a researcher she is formidable, and as a colleague she is a rock.”
